Why Dust Control is Important

why is dust control important

Dust can be a problem from a health standpoint affecting the respiratory system of workers, neighbors and livestock, or as a nuisance that destroys landscaping and real estate properties. Dust can also cause premature wear on machinery and heavy equipment, on construction sites or any commercial or industrial area.

Methods of dust control often include wetting the area where dust is being produced, however, this process must be repeated up to several times per day at a very large expense, and it is not very effective. Sometimes dust fences or barricades are used, but these are also not very effective.

A different approach to this problem is to apply magnesium chloride flakes to the affected area. This acts as a soil stabilizer and adheres the particles of dust to the soil surface before they can become airborne. By doing so, the amount of dust is drastically reduced and the problem is controlled. Treating your gravel road surfaces with magnesium chloride flakes also creates a hard stable surface that helps to prevent road deterioration and minimize future road repairs.
